This season, there are two key trends that you’ll see at many local stores: capes and plaid. I featured several of the hottest looks from four stores participating in the fashion show yesterday on KSDK’s “Show Me St. Louis.” Stores include Forever 21, Ann Taylor, The Limited and Altar’d State.

First, the oversized cape is sophisticated and chic, while its knit fabric makes it comfortable to wear and warm, almost like a blanket! Altar’d State, Ann Taylor and The Limited are a few stores blazoning this trend in their stores right now, and many styles feature western-inspired prints and fringe! The oversized cape (also called a poncho or shawl) also comes in a variety of colors that will satisfy any wardrobe. I am sure you’ll see some of these capes next Thursday night at the event.

Next, plaid patterns are everywhere this season, and you can especially have some fun with it with the imaginative flannel items at Altar’d State, Ann Taylor and Forever 21. I featured a plaid shirt dress from Ann Taylor on “Show Me St. Louis.” Also, Altar’d State has a trend of their own called “Mad For Plaid” which incorporates all of the store’s plaid items, including their Buffalo Plaid Infinity Scarf, Lumberjack Plaid Vest, and Plaid Bowtie Headband. No matter which plaid item you get from Altar’d State, you will be sure to keep up with this stylish trend!

The knit cape and plaid are trends that are both easy to wear, easy to find in local stores, and are classic looks that are sure to match almost anyone’s wardrobe. I hope to see you for the St. Louis Fashion Week Kick Off Party on Thursday!
