Summer Fashion Trends

Each summer is defined by its most popular fashion trends, and summer 2015 will be no different. As the spring collections marched down the runway, giving us a preview of what will be trending for summer ’15, we couldn’t help but get excited when we saw what was in store. Some of the most notable summer 2015 trends include: boho, military, romantic lace, kimonos, denim looks, one piece swimwear, and black and white looks. Although the runways are a great place to get style inspiration, trends often need to be adapted to translate into every day, wearable looks. Here are our favorite summer 2015 trends, along with ready-to-wear examples, which I featured today on “Show Me St. Louis.”

black and whiteBlack and White

This trend is one that often recirculates, but we usually see it as a fall or winter trend. This time, we’re loving this color combo for summer—and we aren’t the only ones! Designers such as Thakoon and Diane von Furstenberg all sent black and white looks down their runways this season. Someone else who caught on to this trend is Calvin Klein, who produced a plethora of black and white dresses, all of which incorporate his usual style of classy-meets-over the top glam. These dresses are available at both Macy’s and Dillard’s.

Romanticized Lace

Give off a feminine and romantic feeling this summer by donning a trend that will never out of style: delicate lace. This trend sometimes gets a bad rap for being too matronly, but the style can be modernized quite easily, as seen recently on the runways of Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Chloe. This lady-like fabric pattern can be used both as the center of your look, and as an accent. Our favorite wearable lace look is a cream colored dress with a super chic fuchsia lace overlay. This dress is from designer Katherine Kelly and is currently available at Dillard’s.

One Piece Swimwear

One piece swimwear has become in fashion in a major way this summer. Although this style of suit once got a bad rap for being not so sexy, there are a plethora of new one piece swim styles that are decidedly, well…sexy! Fun prints, colors, and cut out details take the one piece to a whole new level. Follow the trend that was first seen during Miami’s Swim Week fashion shows, and that has changed the whole swimwear game this summer, by picking up one of our favorite one pieces. We picked a tangerine one-shoulder suit with a gold accent from Michael Kors that we are in love with. This swimsuit is currently available (and on sale!) at Macy’s.

Military style & the color khaki

The color khaki is everywhere this summer. If you were paying attention to the fall/winter and spring/summer runway shows, you may have noticed that this color was incorporated into almost every major designer’s runway shows in some way. This earthy tone can give off both militant and safari vibes. This color varies so much that there are endless shades and combinations to try. In fact, this color has been worn so much and adopted by so many designers, that it has achieved a new status and is now considered a neutral. Our favorite wearable version of this trend is a khaki tie-waist romper from Ralph Lauren. It has pocket details and the khaki-olive color looks amazing against a summer tan. This romper is currently available at Macy’s.

So there you have it, a few of our favorite summer ’15 trends with wearable looks. And don’t forget your accessories from Charming Charlie!  Each wearable look is available at Chesterfield Mall. Pick up these looks today and have a fashionable summer!
